Excerpts of Principal's Address At 70th Commemoration of Founders Day

On behalf of the Board of Governors, Parents/Teachers Association and the entire Staff and  Students of this great School, I am particularly pleased and delighted to welcome you all to the 70th Year Anniversary of the existence of the School. I know that  reaching a milestone of this magnitude of long hlstory of achievements of the College will not go uncelebrated especially by you, the great Old Students having critically viewed your past antecedents before and  immediately on my assumption of duty as the Principal since September 2012. Your concern for succeeding generation of students as exemplified by your ever doting presence and emotional and passionate attachment to the school is unequal and a reflection of your love to the School.

I do not intend to treat you to an unduly lengthy discourse, it is however pertinent that I appeal for your patience as I share with you a brief situational report of some of our problems, hopes, aspiration and stewardship.

The school population as at today stands as 2,194 made up of 1090 from the Junior section and 1104 students from the Senior section. The School has a total of 44 arms. It is principally day school with only 50 Students in the boarding house including 18 girls and 32 boys.

The school is not adequately staffed especially in some subjects chiefly Mathematics, ICT, Account, Physics, Chemistry, English Language, and Bible Knowledge.

In the areas of infrastructure, the school is undergoing a facelift as new structures are  springing up and old ones are being rehabilitated chiefly through the efforts of the great Old Students and the Central Bank Capacity Building Intervention Project. Projects that have been rehabilitated by the Old Students include the Ludlow Hall (1962 Set), the volleyball/basketball court (1982 Set) and the newly built students cafeteria (1965 Set).
 The rehabilitation of the school bus is ongoing and is being done by the 1969 Set.

 Aside from these, so many strudures in the school have been rehabilitated at one time or the other in addition to receipt of donations of furniture, books etc. The donation of 24 sets of wall clocks by one of the very young sets of alumni, the 2009 Set, has provided us with a clock in each classroom and this gesture meant that the younger set are toeing the good example of the older illustrious Sets. I sincerely believe that by the time of completion of all the projects, the School would have so much transformed to the liking of all with it keeping up the standard high in academic and discipline for which it had always been known.

  I would like to use the opportunity of this gathering to appreciate all the work being done presently and to appeal to the stakeholders to please redouble their efforts and hasten work and complete the very critical projects such as the Science Laboratories and the Classrooms in order to reduce the disruption in academic work and afford us time enough to prepare the Final Year Students in particular for the important external examinations (UTME, WAEC and NECO) ahead.

Some of the structures and facilities that require attention include, but are not limited to
      - Refurbishing of (a) The Oyeleke Hall (ie Staff Room). (b) The Oyediran Hall (ie School Library) which in addition is in bad need of furniture including
         book shelves, reading tables and chairs, books and periodicals.
      - Teaching Staff and viable alternate power sources are need for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centres to make them functional
      - The School lacks audiovisual teaching facilities such as Multimedia Projectors
      - Power outage. The School would require a large capacity power generating plant as backup for the irregular electricity supply during school hours
      - Inadequate sporting facilities.The sport field requires re-grassing
      - The perimeter fence of the School is generally weak and broken in places.
      - Good drainage system is needed to curb the menace of erosion and the road network requires rehabilitation

Since the students are adolescents, the indiscipline issues we have had to face bordered on deliquency not uncommon in that age group.
